Flying car here in 6 years

The idea of a flying car has been around for years in science fiction movies and cartoons like the Jetsons, but it looks like this is finally set to become a reality with US firm Terrafugia confirming they are only about 6 years away from putting their TF-X on sale to the public.

Terrafugia-TF-X

With a range of 500 miles a top speed of 200mph and a price tag of £200,000 the TF-X is powered by a hybrid powertrain which powers the car in ground mode and two electric motors using one megawatt of power work with a 300hp engine driving the rotors when in flight.

Terrafugia Driving

With space for four people, the car can take off and land vertically meaning no runway will be needed for take off, and it’s even capable of autonomously avoiding other aircraft, bad weather conditions and being able to find its own suitable landing location although the driver or pilot always has the final say that its safe to land.

Terrafugia has released a video which can be viewed below which shows off the TF-X design and how it will operate. The ultimate toy in my opinion and with still a long wait, plenty of time to save up!

New Honda Civic Type-R

New Honda Civic Type-R Rear
Honda has just shown off their latest Civic Type-R car at their test track in Japan. The car which is due to be launched in 2005 was shown going through intensive testing heavily camouflaged and apparently the main target that the designers are concentrating on above everything else is a lap time of the Nürburgring of less than 8 minutes which would make it the fastest production hatchback to do so by over 8:00 seconds. Has the car already achieved this figure? Chief engineer Suehiro Hasshi said, “I am not allowed to tell you that, but you can use your imagination.”… So i’m guessing it probably has.

New Honda Civic Type-R Interior

The new Civic Type-R will be the first of a range of cars to be powered by a brand-new VTEC Turbo engine. The 2.0 unit used in the Civic has a direct injection system with 4 cylinders and can produce in excess of 280PS which is sure to excite the enthusiast driver since the killing off of the NSX, S2000 and previous Type-R.

New Honda Civic Type-R 2

The performance figures claimed will put the Civic ahead of Ford’s Focus RS, Renault’s Sport Magane, Vauxhall’s Astra VXR on the same footing as Volkswagen’s new Golf-R. Not content with that though, Honda know there is a new Mercedes A45 powered by a 355bhp AMG unit and intend to get as close to it’s performance figures as they possibly can with a front wheel drive car.

Mercedes F015

This is the Mercedes F 015 Luxury in Motion, Mercedes first self-driving car, and boy does it live up to its name.

The futuristic looking pod designed car comes with a plethora of luxury items, including white leather seats, wooden flooring, camera systems and a whole host of computers but the icing on the cake it the fact that it can drive itself, giving you time to do more interesting things like checking up on your friends facebook wall to see what they had for dinner last night.

No more losing the will to live in traffic jams anymore as the car can do all the boring work for you. You can simply sit back and relax or even spin the front chairs around and have a nice little chat with your friends in the back.

Side view of mercedes f015

The idea behind the F 015 was to create an private sanctury on wheels, wether it be your mobile office or place to relax the F 015 is full of the latest computer technology meaning you are instantly able to connect to the virtual world, check your phone contacts via the onboard computer screens or chill out to some nice relaxing music streamed to the car via the net or your mobile device.

Behind the wheel

Its a rather unusual feeling, actually quite scary at first to have a vehicle accerating and braking by itself as you head up a busy road especially if you are sat facing the opposite direction having a chat to someone but this is certainly going to be the future of motoring.

Inside the Mercedes f015

Interior of Mercedes F015

Of course you can instantly take over the control of the car if that makes you feel more comfortable, infact anybody in the car can in affect become the driver as the F 015 has displays in the door panels that allow you to accelerate or decelerate the car by touching them.

The car or “spaceship on wheels” is powered by hydrogen, emits zero carbon dioxide and generates its own electricity with a driving range of 684 miles.

Development

The F 015 has been in development by Mercedes-Benz for the last 4 years, the purpose of which is to demonstrate what is possible with the autonomous vehicle which is closer and closer to becoming a reality on our roads.

Social acceptance of the idea of cars that drive themselves is something manufacturers will have to try to overcome, this is why Mercedes has created a number of different systems to increase saftey. One example of which is a digital voice which will let pedestrians know that it is okay for them to walk in front of or behind the car.

Ghost car spotted recorded on dash camera

Well we’ve all seen the strange ghost images caught on CCTV cams and on the TV most haunted shows but how about a ghost car? This footage is from a dash camera mounted in a car in Russia and it appears to show a ghost of the four wheeled type appear out of nowhere, cutting up a car and causing the driver to slam his brakes on.

Any ideas? Its over to you…

Audi TT Quattro Sport Concept

This is the new TT Quattro Sport concept, a gorgeous 420PS show car based on the new TT which has made its surprise world debut at this years Geneva Motor Show.

This “extreme driving machine” is a stripped out, lightweight version of the All-New-TT and uses a four cylinder 2.0 TFSI engine which can produce a staggering 420PS and will propel the car from 0-62mph in just 3.7 seconds with power put to all four wheels via a twin clutch S-Tronic gearbox.

Audi TT Quattro Sport

The engine which only weights 150kg has been commissioned personally by Audi’s new head of development “Dr Ulrich Hackenberg” and features a forged crankshaft, gas-flowed cylinder head and a newly designed turbocharger. Dr Ulrich has said “When I came to Audi I asked for more power from the 2.0 TFSI, after a while we reached 400hp, but I said it wasn’t enough, so eventually we reached 420hp and I’m satisfied,”. Producing 207bhp per litre compared to Mercedes A45 AMG which produces just 178bhp per litre, I think it’s safe to say its a job well done.

Audi TT Quattro Sport Side View

Cosmetically the front end of the car features a carbon-fibre reinforced polymer front splitter designed to give the car more down-force, a massive trapezoidal grille (which can also be found on the Quattro Concept), massive air intakes built into the front bumper and Matrix LED headlights.

Audi TT Quattro Sport Rear

Audi TT Quattro Sport Alloys

At the rear, the car features a huge racing car style rear wing and a rear diffuser formed from carbon-fiber-reinforced plastic. Other changes include 20″ alloy wheels, carbon-fibre bodywork and lower stiffened suspension designed to give the car a low and wide stance, whilst the “420” graphics add to the racing car image.

Audi Quattro Sport Interior

Inside the rear seats have been removed and replaced with a roll cage with storage for two racing helmets, with the front two seats now low-slung bucket seats trimmed in Alcantara with four-point harnesses. The stereo system has also been removed to save weight but the TT’s virtual cockpit 12.3″ screen has been kept behind the steering wheel.

Audi TT Quattro Sport Dashboard

Head room is actually very good due to a dome shape roof which extends to a large rear window which also gives the driver excellent visibility.

The new Audi TT Quattro Sport concept isn’t being marketed as a replacement for the RS line but more of a glance into what Audi expect to be able to do with the RS’s five-cylinder engine.

Worlds Biggest Collection of Toy Cars

Check out the video above

Toy cars by the makers such as Matchbox and HotWheels have and always will be popular with little children but you probably wouldn’t imagine a Civil War would be a thing to inspire someone to collect them, well believe it or not that it exactly the reason why Billy Karam of Lebanon started his record breaking 30,000+ collection.
Largest Toy Car Collection in the World

The collection which has been certified by the Guinness Book of World Records as being the largest collection of its type in the world, belongs to a former amateur racing driver with a passion for exotic sports cars, who as a child remembers his house being raided during Beirut’s Civil War and having all his possessions including his treasured toys stolen.

As the country slowly recovered from its past troubles, Billy decided to rebuild his collection and at the same time recreate some of his favourite motor racing scenes.

978bhp Mitsubishi Colt Lamborghini Eater

German car tuner “Boba Motorsport” has been tampering with this little Mitsubishi Colt and after a little bit of jiggery pokery it has been turned into a 978bhp, 195 mph Lamborghini eater.

With power coming from its 2.0 litre 16V engine the guys decided to strap a huge turbo-charger to it and then spend some time working on re-mapping the ECU to produce what is nearly 1,000 horsepower.

The car can go from 0-62mph in a staggering 3.0 seconds, then from 62-124mph in just another 3.7 seconds, 124-186 takes 9.8 seconds and then it will keep on going right up to a top speed of 195.7mph.

Luckily the Colt has four-wheel drive, which with this amount of power is quite useful if you want to stay on the road…

Ayrton Senna’s Honda NSX up for Auction

Ayrton Senna NSX

A Honda NSX once belonging to the three times world F1 champion Ayrton Senna is due to go up for auction with a value of £85,000.

Yes that’s right, one of the three Honda NSX cars once driven by legendary Ayrton Senna will be going under the hammer next month at Silverstone Auctions’ Race Retro & Classic Car Sale on 22 and 23 February.

Ayrton Senna NSX Rear

The Black NSX which was registered in 1992 has covered just 31,800 miles and was bought by Ayrton’s manager “Antonio Carlos de Almeida Braga” for the F1 champion to use when visiting his home in Portugal. The other two in existence are a Red one which was lent to him by Honda Motor Company for his use in Quinta Lago, in the south of Portugal at his Villa and another black one which he used in S. Paulo Brazil.

After the tragic death of Senna at Imola in 1994 the car just sat in a garage at Braga’s home where it remained for two years until it was finally sold in 1997 to the current owner.

The car has covered just 31,800 miles, has a full black leather interior, a manual gearbox and is completely original with carpets used by Senna, the last time he drove it.

The NSX was developed with the help of the formula 1 legend who had direct input into the cars handling and chassis setup, and is powered by a mid-mounted 3.0-litre V6 270bhp Honda VTec engine, with power going to the rear wheels via a six speed manual gearbox.

This year actually marks 20 years since Senna’s tragic death with next year also being the 25th anniversary of the NSX. To celebrate the anniversary of the NSX next year, Honda are currently in the latter stages of development of a new model which is expected to arrive mid 2015. Power is rumoured to be upwards of 400bhp with the car utilising an all-new petrol and electric power-train and all wheel drive.

New Honda NSX

Given the vehicle’s superb and original condition and, of course, its history, the car is expected to fetch between £75 000 and £85 000.

Lamborghini Aventador Exhaust Sound

Lamborghini Aventador Exhaust

Want to listen to something that sounds absolutely amazing… how about the sound of a Lamborghini Aventador’s Supersprint exhaust system…

The Lamborghini Aventador has a 6.498cc V12 engine and produces a powerful 740bhp which can take the car from 0-100kmh in just 2.9 seconds. This one finished in Matte black with a single black stripe that run’s over the car body looks on par with the Batmobile and I’m loving the contrast with the yellow brake calipers and black alloy wheels.
